Yu-Gi-Oh! x Nike Air Max 95
Yu-Gi-Oh! x Nike Air Max 95: When Card Game Legends Meet Sneaker Icons
Nike’s latest drop bridges two eras: the anime/manga phenomenon Yu-Gi-Oh! and the iconic Air Max 95, both celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2025. This crossover brings nostalgia, creativity, and collector energy together.
What Is It
The sneaker is officially called the Nike Air Max 95 QS YGO ‘Joey’, a nod to Joey Wheeler (Katsuya Jonouchi in Japanese), who in the anime is often seen wearing a pair that looks like the Neon colorway of the AM95.
Alongside the “Joey” global model, there is a Japan-exclusive “Jonouchi” colorway, which takes cues from the manga’s black-&-white visual style.
Key Design Details
The “Joey” version uses the vibrant neon blue, volt, grey, and white palette reminiscent of the original Neon AM95, with added anime-inspired detailing.
The tongue tag swaps out “Air Max” for “Air Muscle” – referencing how Joey’s shoes are depicted in the anime.
There are Easter eggs: the Red-Eyes Black Dragon monster shows up on the sock liner, the outsole includes YGO branding, and the heel has graphics tied to the trading card lore.
Packaging and extras include a playable Nike x Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card, special collectible packaging, and an apparel collection (teeshirts, varsity jacket) that tie back to Joey’s character, Domino High School, etc.
Release Date & Details
Global “Joey” version release date: September 12, 2025 via Nike SNKRS and select retail partners.
The “Jonouchi” Japan-only version is available around the same date, but specifically through Japanese pop-ups and selected stores.
Why It’s Significant
Anniversary synergy: Yu-Gi-Oh! celebrates 25 years, and the Air Max 95 hits its 30-year mark. This collab leverages both legacies.
It honors fan lore: the anime always showed Joey wearing something very close to the AM95 Neon, though it was never officially that model. This collab makes that link official.
Collectibility: the extra details (card, socks, packaging, character referencing) make it more than just a shoe—it’s a piece of pop culture crossover.
Appeal spans multiple audiences: anime fans, sneaker collectors, retro style lovers. It checks boxes for visuals, lore, and performance.
